Well, yep, uh huh. Yes I do. The Beatles, I have a new found respect for you. Of course I have appreciated your music and known what an impact you’ve had in music but you have now made an impact into mine! ‘Revolver’ was the perfect album to recommend. With beautiful tunes like ‘Love You To’ and ‘I Want To Tell You’ to the ever famous, ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘Yellow Submarine’ this album did me right.
With school picking up, I needed some nice music to get me through the late nights and early mornings to work on homework. Whether I was sitting in Hayden Library trying to find my thoughts and do homework or in my room getting ready for class, I had this album on repeat.
If you couldn’t guess by the title, my favorite was indeed ‘Got To Get You Into My Life’.
Which was favorites to you all?
The Kooks were signed to Virgin after being together for only 3 months back in 2005. What I like about them is… after being signed they continued to write new material and play live until they recorded Inside In/Inside Out in 2006/2007.
This video of their song “If Only” shows off their live performance and to me how it translated to the energy on this album.
So… the best project I have ever taken on has begun! My “New Skewl” band picked by my daughter is a band named The Kooks. I downloaded their album Inside In / Inside Out last night and have listened to it 3 times already to soak it in.
Early favorites are… “Seaside”, “She Moves in Her Own Way”, and “Matchbox”. The influences in this band run deep… so far I hear The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, a smidge of The Beatles, and all wrapped up with some Morrisey.
More to come as I unravel this band, their album, and their place in music…
So the madness has begun!
My dad has picked a band and an album and I in return have done the same. I was given, Pink Floyd’s album, Dark Side of the Moon. I was very pleased with this choice. I have heard Pink Floyd a bit but never took the time to download their stuff. I knew they are a huge influence on bands today so I’m very excited to listen to this album.
As for my dad? I gave him the band, The Kooks and their album, Inside In/Inside Out. Hopefully he’ll get on here soon and let you all know what he thinks of the challenge and the band itself.
Okay - so as I listen, it’s weird. I didn’t expect it to be a mostly instrumental album. There are some verses in some songs, but not all. I surprisingly like this concept. Sometimes when you can just hear music, you can interpret the feelings and the sound you pick up from the song. It leaves it to you. So far I have liked, “On The Run” and “Any Colour You Like”.
Til then!
